Righteous Kill, 2008

You know, I did not think this was terrible. It was no Godfather 2, obviously, but I found myself entertained at least most of the way through.

On reflection, though, I may have been less entertained by the movie and more simply by Robert De Niro who has the power to make any less than stellar story seem classy and exciting. I enjoyed his character, and I enjoyed watching him move with tension and restraint throughout the thing, as his colleagues tried to unravel his mystery.

Okay, so in the end it was a bit obvious, a bit heavy-handed, and really nothing we haven't seen before. Still, these guys are great to watch. I never thought I'd see the day where Donnie Wahlberg would be facing off with Al Pacino in a movie, and yet... I also kinda liked the twist on Carla Gugino's character -- I don't think I've seen a masochistic woman presented as quite so normal on screen before. That was cool.

So, yeah, it's a disposable package, but it's not entirely awful.
